The first step in your treatment
The first part of your treatment is a specialist assessment. This is carried out by two members of our team.
The assessment clinics take place at our base at the Whiteleaf Centre (Aylesbury) and at Saffron House (High Wycombe).
The assessment clinics include a full assessment, physical health observations (including weight and height).
A follow-up call or appointment to confirm the ongoing care plan, following a multidisciplinary team discussion.
During the assessment, we will ask you about:
- your eating difficulties
- their impact on your daily life
- your personal history
- your wider mental health
- your goals for treatment.
Measuring your height and weight
It is important that we take your height and weight as part of the assessment.
We understand this can be difficult for some people.
You can talk to us about the best way to take these measurements during the assessment.
We will then record these, along with other checks, if needed. This information helps us decide the right treatment for you.
Our service does not require you to be a particular BMI to access support.
We work with people at all sizes, provided they meet the criteria for one of the eating disorders we treat.
Before your appointment
We will send you an email with all the details you need for your appointment. If you can’t receive emails, we can send you a letter in the post.
We will also send you some questionnaires to fill in before your appointment. These may be in paper form, or sent by email in an online link via the platform True Colours. These help us understand what is affecting you and how best to advise you.
The questionnaires will ask about your eating difficulties, how they affect your life, and how they affect your mood and anxiety levels. This helps us decide what support or treatment will be most helpful for you.
After your assessment
Following a multidisciplinary team discussion we will let you know the outcome and ongoing treatment plan, where appropriate. This feedback may be provided on the day of your assessment, or at a later time.
We work together with you, any family or close others you wish to involve, and other professionals supporting you to help you recover and manage the risks to your physical and mental health.
Your individual needs will help us decide how often you will meet with the team and what type of support you need.
Once the assessment is complete, we will send the report to you, your GP, and the services that referred you. The report will include suggestions for your ongoing treatment.
