Andrew Williams

Andrew is Head of Spiritual & Pastoral Care at Oxford Health and has experience working as a chaplain across mental health (inpatient and community), acute, children’s, and palliative contexts. He is the course lead for OxCSWell’s Post-Graduate Certificate in Psychospiritual Care run in partnership between Oxford Health and Oxford Brookes University and is currently managing OxCSWell’s research project into the impact of spirituality and religion on the experience of bereavement by suicide. Andrew was Chair of the Mental Health Forum of CHCC (the College of Health Care Chaplains) from 2022 to 2025 and is now the CHCC Research Coordinator. He is also Safeguarding Governor at the Oxfordshire Hospital School and a member of the Collaborating Centre for Values-Based Practice in Health and Social Care at St Catherine’s College, Oxford.
Before chaplaincy, Andrew worked in many different roles including as a counsellor/psychotherapist with particular experience working with young people in schools and with a specialist counselling service for domestic abuse. He lived in Russia for several years around the turn of the millennium and was the co-founder of a charity working with a focus on educational support for institutionalised children and young people. Andrew has also worked in pastoral support, as a school teacher, computer programmer, and in hospitality in a variety of contexts in the UK, Russia, the USA, and France. A highlight of a varied CV was a very brief summer job being the voice of a radio advertisement in Russia for a popular English brand of tea!
He has a MDiv in Theology/Ministry from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, MA, USA, a MSc in Counselling Psychology from Keele University, and a MA(Oxon) in Music. He is a registered member of the BACP and a Board-registered chaplain with UKBHC. Andrew’s book From Object to Icon: The Struggle for Spiritual Vision in a Pornographic World was published in August 2023.

Prior to training as an Anglican Priest, Sally worked for many years with community based theatre companies and as a singer/storyteller.
Sally’s engagement of working with mental health and learning disability began many years ago, when as a puppet maker for a theatre company, she was sent to work in a mental health hospital for adults with learning disabilities. As a mental-health chaplain for the last ten years, both in acute and forensic settings, Sally has continued to use the creative arts to complement her provision of spiritual care.
Sally is an Associate Member of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) as a Groupwork Practitioner having completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Group Psychotherapy (Group Analysis).
She is involved in teaching on the Post-Graduate Certificate in Psycho-Spiritual Care.

Karen has a background working in suicide prevention (clinically and from strategic and research perspectives) within the NHS and nationally, previously working as the nurse consultant lead for suicide prevention at Oxford Health. She teaches on postgraduate and undergraduate courses at Oxford Brookes, leading the MSc dissertation module.
Karen’s professional doctorate investigated the experiences and needs of adults in England who care for an adult family member, partner or friend they consider to be at risk of suicide.
Karen has been a registered mental health nurse since 1992. She continues to practise clinically within a psychiatric liaison team.
