GP for Luther Street Dr Rob Schafer said:

“Thank you for awarding the exceptional people team award to our training team. The Personality Disorder Positive Outcomes Programme supports front line NHS staff teams to feel skilled and confident when working with patients with personality disorder and similar complex emotional needs. We are delighted to receive the award which reflects the dedication and commitment of our lived experience trainers and clinical trainers. We look forward to training more Oxford Health teams this year.”

The nomination

The Personality Disorder Positive Outcomes Programme Training Team was nominated by their colleague Senior Matron for Community Nursing Gabbie Parham.

Gabbie commented:

“The training that this team have developed is groundbreaking and helps services deliver care to service users. The training completely reframes that partnership working between healthcare professionals and service users, changing perspectives and care positively.

“There are both clinical experts and lived experience trainers on the course who work together to deliver the content. The content is so well written and presented. The training really improves practice. The high-quality training is built for the service, led by Dr Rob Schafer, who spends time with the service and service users prior to delivering the training.

“I believe this makes our Trust more caring, safe and excellent, and enables the best possible care and health outcomes for the service users who have previously not had positive experiences. It also supports staff to engage with service users in a much more positive way to reduce the stress on themselves and the service user, making the service a great place to work.

“The PDPOP training has given the service the understanding and skills to effectively prevent such cases escalating in the future and to manage cases when they do escalate in a positive way to maintain care to the patient and reduce staff stress.”
