Researchers at the University of Bristol have worked closely with people with experience of eating disorders to develop a new VR Café intervention. It’s designed to help people with eating disorders practice challenges related to social eating situations in a safe, virtual space.

The research team are currently looking for people with eating disorders who would like to use the VR Café in addition to their current eating disorder treatment. Study participants will attend up to six sessions using the VR Café, supported by a clinician.

You’ll receive vouchers to thank you for your time, and travel expenses will be reimbursed.

You can take part in the study if you:

  • Are aged 14-25 years old
  • Find social eating challenging
  • Are currently accessing treatment for an eating disorder in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Please note: Your parent or guardian will need to agree to you taking part if you are 14-15 years old.

What do participants need to do?

If you take part in the study, you’ll be asked to:

  • Attend up to six 1-hour individual sessions using the VR Café, supported by a clinician
  • Complete a set of questionnaires before starting VR sessions, after the first session, at the end of VR sessions, and again one month later.
  • You might also be invited to attend an optional interview about your experience of taking part in the study.
