
{"id":25,"date":"2022-08-11T11:23:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-11T10:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/sn\/?page_id=25"},"modified":"2026-01-06T09:05:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:05:31","slug":"contraception","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/school-health-nurses\/secondary\/contraception\/","title":{"rendered":"Contraception and sexual health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School health nurses offer support and advice to older students on a range of issues including sexual health and contraception:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sexual health advice;<\/li>\n<li>Emergency contraception, pills, patch, injection and the implant;<\/li>\n<li>Free condoms under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordshireccard.org.uk\/\">C-Card Safety Scheme<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>Chlamydia and gonorrhoea screening;<\/li>\n<li>Chlamydia treatment;<\/li>\n<li>Pregnancy testing and advice about unplanned pregnancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you need to contact a school health nurse<strong> please text chathealth: 07312263084<\/strong> (Mon-Fri) or alternatively see your school health nurse at school<\/p>\n<p>We work to promote healthy and age-appropriate behaviours, so that young people are equipped to make safe, healthy and informed decisions.\u00a0 As nurses, we adhere to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmc.org.uk\/globalassets\/sitedocuments\/nmc-publications\/nmc-code.pdf\">Code of Conduct<\/a> (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and practice within UK Government policies and guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>School health nurses provide a confidential service for young people.\u00a0 We would only pass on any information in order to protect someone from serious harm.\u00a0 Whenever possible, we would discuss any breaches in confidentiality with the young person first.\u00a0 School health nurses encourage young people to talk to their parents.
