Individuals experiencing psychosis will have a different combination of symptoms, which may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hallucinations, Delusions, Disorganised speech and\/or thoughts;<\/li>\n<li>Social withdrawal, reduced speech, self-neglect,<\/li>\n<li>Difficulties remembering things, staying focused on things such as tasks, conversations or trying to figure out how to do something.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Oxford Health, researchers are investigating the different types of causes underpinning experiences in psychotic disorder the aim of developing better treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Previous research suggests that there are a range of different factors that lead an individual to develop psychosis. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Psychological:<\/strong> how we see ourselves, very high stress and worry levels<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social:<\/strong> difficult life experiences, taking illicit drugs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Biological:<\/strong> how our brain functions<\/li>\n<li><strong>Genetic:<\/strong> some people are more vulnerable than others due to their genetics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Schizophrenia is the most common psychotic disorder, however we now know that there are a range of other psychotic disorders.<\/p>\n<h2>Current research<\/h2>\n<p>We have a variety of different studies. Some involve a questionnaires, some involve a therapy and some involve taking a medication.\u00a0 Some take place in our research clinics, in a clinical team base or sometimes they can take place in your home.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ui-provider ed bhs bdy bmi bmj bmk bml bmm bmn bmo bmp bmq bmr bms bmt bmu bmv bmw bmx bmy bmz bna bnb bnc bnd bne bnf bng bnh bni bnj bnk bnl bnm bnn\" dir=\"ltr\">We are sometimes able to contact people directly about research, or get referrals from clinical teams. We are always appreciate hearing from people who are interested in getting involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Current Studies<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p><strong>CLEAR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Antony James- Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:<\/strong> The trial will assess whether Clozapine is more effective than treatment as usual in people 12-25, at the level of clinical symptoms, patient related outcomes, quality of life and cost effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>DPIM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Digby Quested- Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective<\/strong>: To find genetic or other cause of mental illness by studying DNA in the blood or saliva .<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early Intervention Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Professor Belinda Lennox &#8211; Professor of Psychiatry<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>To understand more about psychosis by comparing information collected from individuals with psychosis to the general population. Information will be collected from medical records, a blood sample and other questionnaires.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ENGIMA-TRS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Robert McCutcheon &#8211; Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>Evaluate the efficacy of Evenamide as an add on antipsychotic treatment in patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia. Evenamide is a sodium channel blocker and works to reduce positive psychotic symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enhanced Patient Observations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Karen Lascelles<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective<\/strong>: To\u00a0find out what inpatients, their carers, and ward staff think about any benefits or drawbacks of continuous observations for people at risk of self-harm or suicide. We want to hear views about how it compares to experiences of general observations on wards and to intermittent observations on wards. This information will help us improve safety in wards across England.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Experiences of Feeling Exceptional<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Louise Isham &#8211; Clinical Psychologist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>Exploring a new talking therapy for people experiencing grandiose delusions to build up alternative sources of meaning and purpose creating a personally meaningful focus in life with fewer costs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOCUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Robert McCutcheon &#8211; Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>To evaluate the efficacy of xanomeline-trospium (Cobenfy) in treating cognitive impairment in psychosis.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>GlobalMinds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Philip McGuire &#8211; Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>To develop an internationally diverse bioresource linking genetic and healthcare information in individuals with schizophrenia, psychosis, depression or bipolar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investigating Neural Basis for Psychosis<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Local Collaborator: Professor Belinda Lennox &#8211; Professor of Psychiatry\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Objective: <\/strong>Investigating how memory formation and consolidation processes are altered in individuals with First Episode Psychosis using functional neuroimaging.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAPS- MENSTRUAL CYCLE AND PSYCHOTIC SYMPTOMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator<strong>: <\/strong>Dr Thomas Reilly<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong>This study aims to measure how mental health symptoms changes across the menstrual cycle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neurocrine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Professor Rachel Upthegrove &#8211; Professor of Psychiatry<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong>To evaluate the efficacy of NBI-1117570 compared with placebo on improving behavioural and psychological symptoms of<br \/>\nschizophrenia in adults who warrant inpatient hospitalization. To evaluate the safety and tolerability of NBI-1117570 in<br \/>\nparticipants with schizophrenia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PEACE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Dr Daniel Maughan &#8211; Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong>To explore the cause of cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia by measuring brain activity using brain scans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PPIP2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Professor Belinda Lennox &#8211; Professor of Psychiatry<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong>To test enough patients with psychosis to be able to define the prevalence of schizophrenia that is caused by an antibody mediated disorder.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SMILE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator: Professor Rachel Upthegrove &#8211; Professor of Psychiatry<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong>To investigate the genetic and environmental interactions of people with psychosis spectrum disorders. All participants will be re-contactable and join the NIHR BioResource, offering participants relevant research opportunities in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tri-Prep<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigator<strong>: <\/strong>Dr Andrew Molodynski &#8211; Consultant Psychiatrist<\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective: <\/strong>investigate the views, understandings and perspectives of people with severe mental illness and mental health professionals on smoking\/vaping, reduction and cessation.
