{"id":1463,"date":"2024-09-25T13:56:38","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T12:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/research\/?page_id=1463"},"modified":"2026-02-26T17:34:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T17:34:08","slug":"treating-unmet-needs-in-psychiatry-tune-up","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/research\/research-focused-clinics\/treating-unmet-needs-in-psychiatry-tune-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Treating Unmet Needs in Psychiatry &#8211; TUNE-UP Clinic"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Service Overview<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1464 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/TUNE-UP-191x300.jpg\" alt=\"TUNE-UP\" width=\"157\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/TUNE-UP-191x300.jpg 191w, https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/TUNE-UP.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/>TUNE-UP is a new mental health service that aims to address unmet needs for individuals with psychotic disorders.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic was launched in September 2023 to improve the care of individuals with psychosis and ongoing positive, cognitive, negative, and mental health symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic is located at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford and is led by Dr Robert McCutcheon.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Who is it for?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We aim to assess and manage adults with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Refractory positive psychotic symptoms<\/li>\n<li>Negative symptoms of schizophrenia<\/li>\n<li>Cognitive symptoms associated with psychosis<\/li>\n<li>Antipsychotic Side Effect Burden<\/li>\n<li>Complex physical health comorbidity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Our Services<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We employ a co-working approach with mental health teams within Oxford health:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1469 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/co-owrking-approach.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/co-owrking-approach.jpg 600w, https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/09\/co-owrking-approach-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following referral patients will have a comprehensive assessment of: cognitive function, positive, negative, and affective symptoms, sleep and physical health. This may involve clinical interview, physical assessment, cognitive games, and blood tests.<\/p>\n<p>After the assessment, a management plan is agreed between TUNE-UP, the patient, and the referrer.\u00a0 TUNE-UP will then implement this management plan and review effectiveness before discharging back to the referring team.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Progress to Date<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the first year of operation TUNE-UP received 49 referrals. Feedback to date from patients has been extremely positive e.g.\u00a0 \u201c<em>Everyone is caring and kind and took time to talk and is not just an in and out service.
