International Women’s Day: From the Employment Service

Within the Employment Service Pathway in Oxfordshire Talking Therapies, we make it our goal to recognise and oppose the stigma surrounding mental health, neurodiversity, and other health related issues.

On International Women’s Day, we want to highlight the stigma often affecting women in the workplace; it is common knowledge that the number of men in leadership roles significantly exceeds women and this can contribute to a lack of confidence for many women. It may lead to them believing they do not have what it takes to achieve these roles, or fear they are not assertive enough, or perhaps are perceived as “bossy”.

We aim to shed light on common strengths women possess, which can counter these beliefs and demonstrate women have potential to achieve their goals. Women are known to excel in multitasking, adaptability, attention to detail, emotional intelligence, and collaboration- all these transferrable skills can be beneficial for staff retention and help team members to feel supported and valued. High staff retention is one of the most valuable assets within a company, as it helps build a talent pool and additionally reduces costs associated with turnover and absenteeism.

We want to encourage women to recognise and embrace these strengths, which make them exceptional leaders. We want to acknowledge and celebrate all women’s capabilities and help them to overcome stigma and low confidence to pursue any role they may wish to achieve and contribute to the success of any organisation.

Our Employment Service provides person-centred, empowerment, information and guidance for any employment related issue alongside high quality interventions to improve mental health.
