Thanks to a generous legacy donation from Mr and Mrs Wilson, local residents from Radley, Oxon, Ward 2 at Abingdon Community Hospital were able to open a new facility for patients. The official opening took place on 27th July and John Wilson, Mr Wilson’s son, opened the Wilson Facility.

Marjorie, one of Mr Wilson’s daughters, thanked all the staff who were involved in the development of the unit which will be used by patients on Ward 2 who require rehabilitation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Marjorie said “Thank you to everyone for making this happen. We are delighted our family’s wishes have come to fruition. We wanted this donation to go towards a cause that would benefit patients and this is a well planned out , great facility.”

The official opening was attended not only by family members but also by staff, patients, the architect and representatives from the League of Friends and Charitable Funds. After looking around the new facility, tea and cakes were served outside the hospital café.

Patients have already been benefitting from the Wilson facility by using the parallel walking bars, stair climbing practice and using the beds to practice getting in and out. Janet Hedges, Rehab Assistant said “Before this opened we had to take patients off the ward to use the day hospital facilities and this meant going outside whatever the weather. The Wilson Facility has been well used from the minute it was ready to bring patients in and it has made such a difference!”

Thank you to the Wilson family for the kind donation and to all the staff for their hard work in making sure Mr Wilson and his wife have a legacy to be proud of.
