Organisations, such as the NHS and universities, can use OpenAthens to provide their employees or students with access to resources the organisation has purchased. This means that you may be entitled to more than one athens username and password, depending on how many organisations you are affiliated with.<\/p>\n<h2>Student placements<\/h2>\n<p>Students on placement may register via their University for an NHS OpenAthens \u00a0account (giving them access to NHS national core content resources) and <strong>additionally<\/strong> may register for an OpenAthens account with their NHS placement organisation (giving them access to locally purchased online resources when on placement).<\/p>\n<h2>Logging in<\/h2>\n<p>If you have an OpenAthens account already you can log in at <a title=\"OpenAthens login\" href=\"https:\/\/openathens.nice.org.uk\/Auth\/Login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/openathens.nice.org.uk\/Auth\/Login<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Troubleshooting OpenAthens issues- to find out about current issues\/incidents see: <a href=\"https:\/\/status.openathens.net\/#\">https:\/\/status.openathens.net\/#<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>How do I register for an OpenAthens account?<\/h2>\n<h3>1 &#8211; Register for an OpenAthens User Name:<\/h3>\n<p>Go to: <a href=\"https:\/\/openathens.nice.org.uk\/\">https:\/\/openathens.nice.org.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1 \u2013 OpenAthens account eligibility and email<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0check eligibility criteria and confirm acceptance<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0enter email address n.b. this should be an nhs or otherwise approved email address \u2013 do not use a personal email address as this will be rejected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 2 \u2013 Organisation\u00a0<\/strong>Start to type in your organisation before selecting from the list that appears below. \u00a0The organisations you should be using are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>GPs and practice staff in Oxfordshire<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Commissioning in the South West, Thames Valley and Wessex\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Public health staff in England<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 3 &#8211; Your Details.<\/strong> Complete all sections<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data Protection \u2013 tick to accept terms and conditions<\/li>\n<li><strong>Submit details\u00a0 <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>On the following page under <strong>Account details summary,<\/strong> make a note of your <strong>Username<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you need help to register or renew your account,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eOn-ic3IVOM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">watch our short video<\/a><\/p>\n[\/ohft_box]\n<div class=\"ohft-box gray\">\n<h3>\u00a02.\u00a0 Create your OpenAthens password<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>activation email<\/strong><b> <\/b>will be sent to the email address you used for your registration.<\/li>\n<li>Check your Junk and Spam inboxes if you can\u2019t find it.<\/li>\n<li>The sender is: Eduserv Athens<\/li>\n<li>The subject line is: Activate your NHS OpenAthens account<\/li>\n<li>Click on the link in the email <strong>asap to create your password<\/strong>. The password <strong>must<\/strong> have a minimum of 8 characters, contain a number, and <strong>must not<\/strong> contain ascending or descending sequences (eg ABC or 123) or it will be rejected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you register from a NHSnet computer, you will receive an athens username immediately. If you register from any other computer, it make take up to 15 working days for you to receive a username as your details will need to be verified. Please <a title=\"Contact Us\" href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/library\/about-us\/contact-us\/\">contact library staff<\/a> if you have any problems registering for athens or any queries about your athens account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Do I need to re-register on changing from one trust or institution to another?<\/h2>\n<p>If you already have an OpenAthens username and password from another institution or trust, change to Oxford Health NHS FT (where eligible) or other appropriate &#8216;home&#8217; organisation \u00a0to ensure you get access to all the resources you are now entitled to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Step 1- Change your organisation.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Log into MyAccount with your NHS OpenAthens username and password. Change your Trust or Organisation.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Step 2 &#8211; Reset your NHS OpenAthens password.<\/strong> You will be sent an email containing a link.
