Suitable for GP trainees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"h1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscb.org.uk\/booking-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 16px;line-height: 1.5\">The OSCB offers a wide range of training on various safeguarding related subjects as both face-to-face and e-learning courses. Scroll down to find the the current training brochure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/clinical-and-research\/clinical-resources\/~\/media\/Files\/CIRC\/Safeguarding-Children-Toolkit-2014\/RCGP-NSPCC-Safeguarding-Children-Toolkit.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NSPCC\/RCGP Safeguarding Children Toolkit for General Practice<\/a>\u00a0 &#8211; a framework for integrating safeguarding children and young people into existing practice systems and processes for delivering primary care. A practical workbook for busy GPs and their teams, designed to help Practice staff to recognise when a child may be at risk of abuse. The toolkit includes a number of resources including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/clinical-and-research\/clinical-resources\/~\/media\/E111E7037734475AA7DA55BB8C19631D.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">T6 Reflective Tool &#8211;<\/a>\u00a0a \u00a0series of reflective exercises for GPs and Practice Teams\u00a0for use in professional\u00a0and organisational development and as a starting point for internal audits and quality\u00a0improvement projects which may be presented as evidence for GP appraisal and revalidation.<\/p>\n<p>For dental teams PHE has published\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/safeguarding-in-general-dental-practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safeguarding in general dental practice: a toolkit for dental teams,<\/a> which clarifies the role of the dental team\u00a0\u00a0and outlines training requirements and opportunities\u00a0 for dental staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Safeguarding vulnerable adults<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>The RCGP<a href=\"https:\/\/elearning.rcgp.org.uk\/course\/view.php?id=245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Safeguarding Adutls at Risk of Harm<\/a> course aims to improve detection and management of adults in need of safeguarding.<\/p>\n<p>The BMA has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/clinical-and-research\/about\/clinical-news\/news-archive\/september\/safeguarding-adults-at-risk-toolkit.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a tool kit for general practitioners<\/a>,\u00a0reminding doctors of their duty to protect vulnerable adults and the legislative framework. It highlights the issues of vulnerability and mental capacity.\u00a0The complete publication explains how GPs and health professionals play key roles in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcn.org.uk\/professional-development\/publications\/pub-007069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adult Safeguarding: Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff<\/a> sets out minimum training requirements for all healthcare staff including non-clinical primary care staff (level 1), GP practice Managers (level 2), GPs (level 3), and named professionals (level 4). A useful tool for developing and reviewing job\/role descriptions, assessing clinical competence for different levels of practitioner, developing personal goals and performance appraisal.<\/p>\n<p>Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/e-learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">e-learning resources<\/a>\u00a0on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/e-learning\/mca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mental Capacity Act<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/e-learning\/dols\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Deprivation of Liberties Safeguards<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/e-learning\/safeguarding-adults\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safeguarding adults<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For dental teams PHE has published\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/safeguarding-in-general-dental-practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safeguarding in general dental practice: a toolkit for dental teams,<\/a> which clarifies the role of the dental team\u00a0\u00a0and outlines training requirements and opportunities\u00a0 for dental staff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Mental Capacity<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>Mental capacity is the ability to make a specific decision at the time it needs to be made, with help if necessary. The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) lays out how an individual can retain power over decisions that have to be made in the future, if they should lose capacity. \u00a0It is by following the MCA that professionals ensure they are acting lawfully and respecting the human rights of people who may lack capacity to consent to interventions that are proposed.<\/p>\n<p>Health Education England e-Learning for Healthcare (HEE e-LfH) has worked with a number of organisations to develop an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-lfh.org.uk\/programmes\/mental-capacity-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> e-learning programme about the MCA<\/a> for health and care professionals.<\/p>\n<p>SCIE has developed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scie.org.uk\/e-learning\/mca\">Mental Capacity Act\u00a0e-learning course<\/a> which\u00a0explores the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including best interests decision-making,and how to support people to make their own decisions. The course is free and\u00a0is for everyone who looks after or cares for someone, for example, doctors, nurses, care assistants, social workers, and family members.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Modern Slavery<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>NHS England have provided information on their website that focuses on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/ourwork\/safeguarding\/our-work\/modern-slavery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">organisations work around modern slavery<\/a>. This sets out a range of ongoing activity including training, awareness raising and joint working with other organisations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-lfh.org.uk\/programmes\/modern-slavery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Identifying and supporting victims of modern slavery <\/a>&#8211; an overview of the issue of modern slavery available on the e-Learning for Healthcare website. \u00a0It is aimed at helping all healthcare staff recognise the signs that someone has been trafficked, and to take appropriate action with confidence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Royal College of Nursing has produced a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcn.org.uk\/professional-development\/publications\/pub-005984\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pocket guide to help nurses and midwives<\/a> identify victims of slavery and help victims find support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.antislaverycommissioner.co.uk\/resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Independent Anti Slavery Commissioner (IASC)<\/a> has produced a video for all health staff, and another for emergency services staff, on spotting the signs of modern slavery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Migrant health<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/migrant.health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Migrant Health<\/a> is an online tool for people working in primary care who want to learn about and discuss how to provide high quality care for migrant patients, particularly those who might be in more vulnerable circumstances.\u00a0Launched in July 2018, it is a prototype; developed jointly by Doctors of the World (DOTW) and the University of Sheffield.\u00a0The content for resources was developed from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doctorsoftheworld.org.uk\/what-we-stand-for\/supporting-medics\/resources-for-medics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DOTW<\/a>\u00a0UK\u2019s online training, as well as drawing heavily on resources from expert organisations, in particular\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/topic\/health-protection\/migrant-health-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Public Health England\u2019s Migrant Health Guide<\/a>, and the World Health Organisation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #999999\">The CPD Zone is brought to you by the GP schools of Health Education England working across <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thamesvalley.hee.nhs.uk\/gp-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thames Valley<\/a> <span style=\"color: #999999\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wessex.hee.nhs.uk\/general-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wessex<\/a><span style=\"color: #999999\">, in association with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxford Health FT Library<\/a>.\u200b<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a clinical app to support NHS staff on their responsibilities around safeguarding available here.
