Physician Associates provides an additional resource to help practices meet these challenges.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Dr Peter Dixon,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medeconomics.co.uk\/article\/1432808\/physician-associates-help-general-practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Medeconomics July 2017<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Physician associates (PAs) are a relatively new member of the clinical team, seen as complementary to GPs rather than a substitute.\u00a0Commitments in The 2016 General Practice Forward View included an aim to recruit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hee.nhs.uk\/our-work\/primary-care\/physician-associates-primary-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1000 physician associates<\/a> into general practice. The FPA reviews and sets standards for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the education and training of physician associates<\/li>\n<li>accreditation of university programmes and<\/li>\n<li>physician associate national certification and recertification examinations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The FPA manage the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fparcp.co.uk\/employers\/pamvr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register <\/a>\u00a0(PAMVR) of fully qualified physician associates who have been declared fit to practise in the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Information for employers<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>The Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA) have developed a dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/fparcp.co.uk\/employers\/pas-in-general-practice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PAs in GP website<\/a> to help support GPs\/practice managers who are either thinking of employing or have recently taken on a PA and inform the wider primary care system.
