Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance action plan 2019-24
The UK government has set out its ambitions and actions for antimicrobial resistance over the next 5-years in Tackling antimicrobial resistance 2019 to 2024: the UK’s 5-year national action plan.
Central to the plan is improving professional education, training of health and social care workers in practices such as hand hygiene and aseptic technique, and implementing the UK antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship competences.
Objectives include enhancing the role of pharmacists in primary care to review the dose and duration of antimicrobial prescriptions (especially long-term or repeat ones), and to work with prescribers to review those that are inappropriate through evidence-based, system-wide interventions.
