GP Access Fund (formerly Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund)
In October 2013, the former Prime Minister announced a new £50 million Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund to help improve access to general practice and stimulate innovative ways of providing primary care services. Now called the GP Access Fund, 57 pilots have trialled a range of innovative ideas including opening 8am-8pm on weekdays and weekends; better use of telecare and health apps; more ways for patients to book appointments including e-mail and Skype; and new services like care coordinators, to manage care for patients with complex needs.
