We use an rTMS protocol called \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">accelerated intermittent Theta Burst Stimulation&#8221; (aiTBS). \u202f This is an adaptation of an iTBS protocol which is licensed in the USA. The version of aiTBS which we use reduces the duration of treatment to 2 weeks compared to the 6 weeks that is typical of \u2018Standard\u2019 rTMS. It is not a licensed treatment protocol. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">To have this treatment for depression, you come to the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Warneford <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Hospital 5 days a week<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> typically for two weeks. Each day, you will have 3 treatment sessions lasting 9 minutes each<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> at intervals of 50 minutes, delivered on the left side of your head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You sit in a large chair. \u00a0A box containing a magnetic coil is put against your head which delivers the treatment pulses. \u00a0You will feel tapping or twitching. \u00a0The commonest side effects are headache and scalp pain. You are allowed to drive afterwards.\u00a0 rTMS does not involve needles or taking medication.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">After the course of treatment has finished, you may need to return for top-up sessions.
