
{"id":1346,"date":"2023-02-07T15:58:31","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T15:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/hv\/?page_id=1346"},"modified":"2025-09-17T14:43:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T13:43:13","slug":"additional-needs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/hv\/support\/additional-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"Support for children with additional needs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>It can be a worrying time, if you suspect your child has additional needs, related to their health or development, or if you are in the process of getting a diagnosis.<\/h4>\n<h2>Get in touch<\/h2>\n<p>If you are worried, please don&#8217;t hesitate to contact our Parentline 0-4 TEXT 07312263081 or contact details can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/hv\/support\/contacts\/\">HV contact list &#8211; Health Visiting ServiceHealth Visiting Service (oxfordhealth.nhs.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>We are here to help<\/h2>\n<p>Health Visitors support all children and families to thrive throughout their lives, providing early help and support.<\/p>\n<p>We provide support for families who have a child under the age of 5 where there are concerns for possible special educational needs and\/or disability, or with complex or chronic health concerns.<\/p>\n<p>We work closely with specialist services, such as the Community Children&#8217;s Nursing Service, Children&#8217;s Integrated Therapies, EYSENIT team, SENSS, Community Paediatrics, for example.<\/p>\n<h2>Other sources of help<\/h2>\n<p>Health visitors are supported by a team of community staff nurses and community nursery nurses who are skilled in identifying health or development problems early and in delivering support, advice, or signposting to specialist services, to improve your child\u2019s health and well-being.<\/p>\n<h2>Complex needs<\/h2>\n<p>If your child\u2019s needs are more complex your Health Visitor can play a key role in bringing together local services that can support you and the family. We will always make sure that the service we offer to you and your child is accessible.<\/p>\n<h2>Diagnosis process<\/h2>\n<p>We support parents and carers through the process of diagnosis, and also in discussing health or developmental concerns.<\/p>\n<p>For many parents with a child with additional needs, the support they need can vary, but commonly can be around toilet training, language development, sleep and behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Our community public health associates provide &#8220;Episodes of care&#8221; in all these areas, and other, to support you and your family with your child&#8217;s health or development.<\/p>\n<p>To access support please contact our Parentline 0-5 TEXT 07312263081<\/p>\n<h2>SEND pathway<\/h2>\n<p>We work according to our SEND pathway which provides support to families with children who have special educational needs and\/or diagnosis, or where a referral has been made because of parental or professional concerns.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>For children where a diagnosis of special educational need and\/or disability has been made these local and\u00a0 national support websites can provide advice and support<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h2>Local links<\/h2>\n<p>Children&#8217;s Integrated Therapies ( including Speech and Language, Physiotherapy , Occupational Therapy ) <a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/cit\/\">https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/cit\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oxfordshire County Council &#8220;Local offer&#8221; is the package of support available to your child if they have a special educational need and\/or disability.
