Our Community Dental Service provides a wide range of NHS dental care for children and adults who are unable to access treatment in a general dental practice.

We are a referral-only service designed to meet the needs of people who require specialist support.

Who we help

We care for individuals with a variety of additional needs, including:

• Physical disabilities or learning disabilities
• Complex medical conditions that require specialist dental management
• Severe dental anxiety, phobia, or mental health challenges
• A need for care under sedation or general anaesthetic
• Vulnerable groups such as looked-after children or adults with safeguarding concerns

We also provide domiciliary (home) dental visits for people who are certified as housebound by their GP.

Treatment plan

Once a referral is accepted, patients receive an initial assessment, during which we develop a personalised treatment plan based on clinical needs, preferences, and circumstances.

We take time to explain all treatment options, including the benefits and any risks, and support patients in making informed decisions about their care.

Our clinical team delivers a full range of NHS dental treatments — from preventative care and oral health advice to more complex procedures.

We work across several clinic locations, ensuring services are delivered in safe, accessible, and supportive environments.

Signposting

All referrals are reviewed by a clinician to ensure our service is the most appropriate. If we are not the best fit, we’ll work with the referrer to guide the patient to a more suitable option.
