Be assured, a Carer\u2019s Assessment is not to assess you in your caring role, or to judge you on how well you are caring for someone. If the carer goes down, the whole ship goes down.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"ohft-testimonial-author\">Carers message<\/div><\/div>\n<h2>What is it?<\/h2>\n<p>A Carer\u2019s Assessment is a discussion about you as an individual, your caring situation and needs. It enables an individual to be formally recognised and supported in their role as a carer and is a time for them to express their needs and concerns arising out of their caring role.<\/p>\n<p>If you are in an unpaid caring role, you can have an assessment no matter what your level of need, regardless of the amount of care you provide or your financial means. Young carers (under the age of 18) are entitled to a Carer\u2019s Assessment. A Carer\u2019s Assessment is free.<\/p>\n<h2>Why have one?<\/h2>\n<p>An assessment can help you feel more supported, less isolated and more aware of the help available to you. Your carer\u2019s assessment should cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your caring role and how it affects your life and wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Your feelings and choices about caring<\/li>\n<li>Your health<\/li>\n<li>Work, study and training<\/li>\n<li>Relationships and social activities<\/li>\n<li>Housing<\/li>\n<li>Planning for an emergency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"ohft-testimonial  ohft-all\"><div class=\"ohft-testimonial-content\">\n<p class=\"Carersmessage\">It\u2019s your time, it is something for you.
