These are OSCA Outreach and OSCA Crisis

OSCA Crisis

Sometimes, young people will experience a crisis with their mental health and the OSCA Crisis team will work with the young person through this difficult time by helping them to keep out of, or to help them return home from hospital as soon as possible. This could be from a local hospital’s A&E department, or a Mental Health Unit.

What to do if it’s a Crisis

Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire

Call 111 for the 24/7 Mental Health Helpline

This service is available to people of all ages in Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire

Who can we help?

When a young person is in crisis, we always work with the them as our first priority, but we may also offer support to their parents, carers, or the network of professionals who know the young person as well.

This may look like treatment at home or in the community on clinic sites, offering flexibility as and when appropriate or required.

Treatments

When a Crisis assessment has been completed with the young person, a safety and care plan will be agreed. Crisis workers will offer f2f or virtual review appointments and will use treatments such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Crisis workers also offer brief skills interventions to focus on supporting young people to tolerate their distress and also regulate their emotions through practical skills.

Crisis workers will also think about the best next steps for the young person as they recover from a ‘crisis’

Onward referrals to other services within CAMHS or to external agencies will be made if this is felt right for the young person.
