Parents\/carer(s) of the young person should attend the appointment. It is important the whole family understands the eating disorder and accesses support.<\/p>\n<p>The first appointment typically lasts <strong>up to one and a half hours\u00a0<\/strong>and there is usually time for the young person and parents\/carers to be seen <strong>both together and separately<\/strong>, so everyone has the opportunity to share their perspective.<\/p>\n<h3>What to Expect at Your Assessment<\/h3>\n<p>You will usually meet with <strong>one or two clinicians<\/strong>, and the assessment will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discussion of current concerns and eating-related difficulties<\/li>\n<li>How and when the difficulties developed<\/li>\n<li>Emotional wellbeing and any other mental health concerns<\/li>\n<li>Family life, school or college, and everyday functioning<\/li>\n<li>What you would like to be different?<\/li>\n<li>What goals feel important to you?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Physical health assessment<\/h3>\n<p>A physical health assessment will also be completed. This may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Measuring height and weight<\/li>\n<li>Blood pressure and pulse<\/li>\n<li>Muscle strength and hydration<\/li>\n<li>Discussion of any physical symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, tiredness or feeling cold<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will also talk about <strong>what you would like to be different<\/strong> and what goals feel important, to help guide next steps.<\/p>\n<h3>After the assessment<\/h3>\n<p>After the assessment discussion, there will be a short break while the <strong>multidisciplinary team<\/strong> (which includes psychiatrists, paediatricians, psychologists, family therapists, dietitians, occupational therapists and nurses) meets to consider the information shared.<\/p>\n<p>You will then be seen again for around <strong>30\u201345 minutes<\/strong> to receive feedback and discuss recommendations.<\/p>\n<h3>Next steps and communication<\/h3>\n<p>At the end of the assessment, we aim for you to have a <strong>clear understanding of the difficulties identified<\/strong> and what will happen next and there are a number of possible outcomes and next steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agreement of a <strong>treatment plan<\/strong>, with specialist treatment as part of the feedback session on the same day as the assessment<\/li>\n<li>Advice and support, with a follow-up appointment arranged if appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Signposting or referral to another team if CAMHS Eating Disorders is not the most suitable service<\/li>\n<li>Discharge if no further mental health needs are identified that would benefit from CAMHS intervention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Following the assessment<\/h3>\n<p>We will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>issue a <strong>summary letter<\/strong> to the young person, their family, the referrer and the GP<\/li>\n<li>Ongoing correspondence will be shared after each review, outlining progress and plans to family and GP<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assessments Assessments usually take place over one morning.
