{"id":197268,"date":"2026-08-04T10:41:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T09:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/?page_id=197268"},"modified":"2026-08-04T10:41:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T09:41:47","slug":"information-for-young-people","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/bucks\/ed\/information-for-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Information for Young People"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Information for Young People<\/h2>\n<h3>When to seek help<\/h3>\n<p>It can be hard to know when to ask someone for help \u2013 maybe you worry you\u2019d be wasting their time, or it would mean admitting that there is a problem. \u00a0However,\u00a0<strong>you are more likely to get better if you ask for help early<\/strong>\u00a0so don\u2019t hesitate to ask for help if you\u2019re worried: eating disorders are serious illnesses and can be life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p>The sooner you address an eating disorder the better, as habits can become entrenched.<\/p>\n<h3>Eating disorders are hard to fight alone<\/h3>\n<p>It can be helpful to talk things over with a supportive friend, or to speak to the eating disorder charity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk\/\">Beat<\/a>. Their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk\/get-information-and-support\/get-help-for-myself\/i-need-support-now\/helplines\/\">helplines<\/a>\u00a0offer support and information about eating disorders and difficulties with food, weight, and shape, but to access healthcare you need to see a professional.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to someone about your worries, no matter how small or silly you think they are can really help to change the things you don\u2019t like about your life. There are lots of people who can help, you just need to ask.<\/p>\n<h3>Talk to a trusted adult<\/h3>\n<p>Talk to a trusted adult and let them know how you are feeling. Your parents\/carer(s) can get advice from our service. You might find it easier to speak to your school nurse, a teacher, or another adult you know well.<\/p>\n<h3>Speak to your doctor:<\/h3>\n<p>Book an appointment at your local doctors\u2019 surgery and discuss your worries with your GP. It can be difficult to be honest about exactly what might be bothering you but the more information your GP has, the more easily they will be able to find you the right help. GPs are the first step to accessing specialist support.<\/p>\n<p>You can also speak to a GP if you are worried about a loved one although, due to issues around confidentiality, there will be limits on what they can share with you.<\/p>\n<h3>Contact CAMHS<\/h3>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/bucks\/spa\/\">Single Point of Access (SPA)<\/a> team serves as the front door for Buckinghamshire CAMHS and there team page has information on referral criteria and how to refer.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, you can our team directly by calling 01865 901951, option 8.
