We are a specialist CAMHS\u00a0<\/span>Eating Disorders<\/span><\/a> (ED) team in Buckinghamshire, working with children and young people who are registered with a GP in the Buckinghamshire area. We support young people and their families from the earlier signs of concern through to more serious or complex eating difficulties.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our team\u00a0consists of\u00a0psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, nurses, a dietitian, occupational therapists, family therapists, and administrative staff. We also have access to medical colleagues who can meet with young people to discuss the role of medication in supporting recovery when\u00a0appropriate.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We provide assessment and treatment for a range of eating disorders, including\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Anorexia Nervosa\u00a0<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Bulimia Nervosa<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Binge Eating Disorder<\/span><\/a>. Our treatment programmes are evidence-based and tailored to meet the individual needs of young people and their\u00a0carers. We have\u00a0a strong focus on collaboration, recovery, and ongoing support.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our team works closely with schools and colleges,\u00a0social\u00a0care, GPs, paediatrics, other CAMHS teams, and wider health services. We also provide consultation, joint working, and training to other professionals\u00a0within CAMHS\u00a0involved in supporting young people\u00a0who have difficulties\u00a0with eating.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n There is lots of information and advice available to support young people and those around them to learn more about <\/span>eating disorders<\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We provide specialist assessment and treatment for children and young people (up to the age of 18) in Buckinghamshire who are experiencing eating disorders. We work closely with young people and their families to offer early,\u00a0timely\u00a0support and aim to restore both physical health and psychological wellbeing in a safe, collaborative way.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Following referral,\u00a0young people and their families are invited to attend\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span>eating disorder assessment<\/span><\/a>\u00a0carried out by\u00a0our\u00a0team of different specialists. This helps us\u00a0understand the difficulties being experienced and agree the most\u00a0appropriate treatment\u00a0plan. is usually provided on an outpatient basis and may involve regular individual and family appointments over a period of weeks or months.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Buckinghamshire CAMHS Eating Disorder Service supports children and young people with eating disorders<\/strong>, including Anorexia Nervosa<\/strong><\/a>, <\/strong>Bulimia Nervosa<\/strong><\/a> and <\/strong>Binge eating disorder<\/strong><\/a>, where there are significant concerns about weight, shape and eating.<\/p>\n If an eating disorder is suspected, please speak to your GP.<\/p>\n Referrals are sent electronically to the CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA).<\/a><\/p>\n Other CAMHS teams can also refer young people to us.<\/p>\n If a referral is urgent<\/strong> (for example very low weight, rapid weight loss, or serious mental health risk such as suicidal thoughts), referrers are advised to telephone the service directly<\/strong>, followed by a written referral marked urgent<\/em>.<\/p>\n If there is a physical health emergency (<\/strong>As per the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) Guidance risk check list <\/em><\/strong><\/a>)<\/em><\/strong>, the young person should be referred immediately to:<\/p>\n Each young person is\u00a0allocated\u00a0a key worker who will oversee their care, provide ongoing support, coordinate input from the wider multidisciplinary team, and arrange regular reviews. Treatment plans are tailored to individual needs and agreed collaboratively at each stage.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We offer a range of\u00a0evidence-based\u00a0<\/span>treatments<\/span><\/a>. These include:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Treatment may include individual therapeutic work,\u00a0physical monitoring,\u00a0family\u00a0work\u00a0and specialist dietetic input.\u00a0At the start of treatment,\u00a0we can\u00a0also\u00a0offer parents and carers\u00a0support through\u00a0Parent Skills workshops and Multi-Family Therapy\u00a0(MFT)\u00a0programmes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our service supports children and young people with eating disorders and their families. We work with young people to understand their difficulties and provide\u00a0timely, specialist support and treatment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The CAMHS Eating Disorder Service in Buckinghamshire is for young people who\u00a0meet\u00a0all of\u00a0the below criteria:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If the\u00a0eating concerns appear secondary to other mental health concerns that meet CAMHS access criteria then alternative CAMHS<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>support may be offered.<\/span><\/p>\n We work closely with the Buckinghamshire Adult Eating disorder service who support young people once they are 18 years old.\u00a0When\u00a0a young person is\u00a0nearly 18\u00a0years old,\u00a0they\u00a0may need to\u00a0<\/span>transition to adult eating disorder services<\/span><\/a>\u00a0where\u00a0they\u00a0will have a more adult\u00a0focused treatment.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You will be seen for your assessment at one of our CAMHS locations \u2013the majority of\u00a0the assessments take place at the\u00a0<\/span>Sue Nicholls Centre<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n The Sue Nicholls CentreWhat we help with<\/h2>\n
