We appreciate the high level of commitment and resilience required to maintain this.<\/p>\n<p>You may require other services such as social care to support you with finding the time for self-care. This includes hearing tests, eye tests, and dentist check-ups. Your child\u2019s GP can support with a Health Action Plan.<\/p>\n<p>The first step in understanding challenging behaviour is to rule out physical health issues. Physical health can impact behaviour. For example, not being able to see or hear clearly, or experiencing pain.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/learning-disabilities\/annual-health-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual Health Check information<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"nhsuk-action-link\"><a class=\"nhsuk-action-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"self\"><span class=\"nhsuk-action-link__text\">Physical health and challenging behaviour<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Communication<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>Start to create a structured, meaningful routine. You can include everyday events (breakfast, shower, bedtime, etc.) and desirable activities.<\/p>\n<p>A visual timetable can help to make this clear. Visuals are important to communicate what is happening now and next.<\/p>\n<p>School will be using a visual timetable and now &amp; next for your child, so you can ask for their support to create these visuals.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nhsuk-action-link\"><a class=\"nhsuk-action-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/oxon\/ld\/communicating\/\" target=\"self\"><span class=\"nhsuk-action-link__text\">Communicating with your child<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Consider the environment<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p>What are the sensory levels like in the home?<\/p>\n<p>Noise, lighting, smells, surfaces \u2013 can anything be adjusted to better suit your child\u2019s needs?<\/p>\n<p>Environment, communication, and social interaction influence a child&#8217;s behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>How busy and noisy is it at home and school? What is the lighting like, the smells, and surfaces within these environments?<\/p>\n<p>Processing sensory information can result in an over-responsive reaction. This may make is difficult for a child to process information in the environment.<\/p>\n<p>The child may become overwhelmed by the environment, increase anxiety and resistance to the environment. Supporting children to manage their sensory needs may help to increase their tolerance to cope in different environments.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nhsuk-action-link\"><a class=\"nhsuk-action-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/oxon\/ld\/strategies-at-home\/\" target=\"self\"><span class=\"nhsuk-action-link__text\">Strategies to use at home to support your child<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<h2>Additional services you can access<\/h2>\n<p>It is normal to be finding it difficult to support your child.
