{"id":195106,"date":"2023-12-19T17:40:41","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T17:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/?page_id=195106"},"modified":"2024-02-07T14:42:36","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T14:42:36","slug":"worrying-about-sleep","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/camhs\/self-care\/sleep\/anxiety-worry\/worrying-about-sleep\/","title":{"rendered":"Worrying about sleep (or lack of sleep)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Challenge<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p2\">Sometimes, our anxiety at night can stem from frustrations about not being able to get to sleep, or back to sleep, and thinking about how this might impact us the next day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">If we lie in bed thinking thoughts such as <b><i>\u201cI\u2019ll be exhausted tomorrow,\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll never get to sleep,\u201d \u201cit\u2019s ruining my health\u201d <\/i><\/b>or watching the clock tick by and counting down the hours we have left in the night, the effect is usually that we just get more and more tense and anxious &#8212; and therefore less likely to sleep!<\/p>\n<h2>Strategies<\/h2>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Don&#039;t clock-watch<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p class=\"p2\">If you struggle with worrying about how long you have left to sleep, you may find it helpful to turn your clock or phone around so you can\u2019t see the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Your body can\u2019t tell the time and if clock-watching makes you anxious, this will make it easier to nod back off.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Clear your mind<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p class=\"p2\">Remind yourself you will fall asleep eventually.
