Sleep and our mental health
Why read this guide?
As sleep is so important for our mental health, it is often one of the first things we ask people about when they come to CAMHS.
We think that, rather than waiting to improve your sleep until you see a CAMHS worker, it makes sense to give you the information you need to start off on the journey of improving your sleep (and your mental health) right now — so we made this guide!
What does it cover?
It explains:
- How sleep works
- What sleep does for our bodies and minds
- What happens if we don’t get enough good quality sleep
- What stops us from sleeping or getting good quality sleep
- How to improve our sleep
A piece of the puzzle
If you can figure out what prevents you from getting the sleep you need — and try out some of the ideas in this guide for getting better sleep — you’ll hopefully have found one piece of the puzzle for how best to support your mental health.
Get the knowledge
We hope this knowledge will give you the confidence to make the right changes to your sleep to support your wellbeing.
It also means that you’ll have the knowledge of what works for you, what doesn’t, and what you might need some extra help with, if you do come into CAMHS and work with one of our team.
Then you won’t have to spend extra time figuring it out when you start therapy.
Let’s get started
