What to expect in the assessment
The assessment takes place over one morning or one afternoon and we invite the whole family to attend including siblings.
At the initial meeting (usually an hour and a half), we will ask about your current concerns and the things your parents are concerned about, (particularly in relation to your eating), how these concerns developed, other mental health concerns, the family structure and your development and current functioning in everyday activities.
Initial appointments are usually carried out by two clinicians, so there will be an opportunity for you and your parents to be seen separately. We will occasionally have additional observers including students and other health care professionals. You can choose not to have students/observers in your appointment.
The appointment will include an assessment of your physical health. This involves measuring your height, weight, blood pressure, muscle strength, how well hydrated you are and other aspects of your physical health as relevant. We will also discuss what you would like to be different and how our service could help you towards these goals.
You will then have a break whilst the team meets to discuss the assessment and consider what treatment can be offered. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of psychiatrists, paediatricians, psychologists, family therapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, and nurses. You can learn more about the team here. We will then meet with you again for 30-45 minutes to feedback our assessment and to develop an agreed treatment plan.
Our aim is that at the end of the assessment you will have a clear understanding of the nature of the problem, be given clear information and a treatment plan to take home.
