
{"id":34,"date":"2023-10-18T15:22:32","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T14:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/wceds\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2026-06-03T14:10:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T13:10:18","slug":"physical-health-monitoring","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/oxfordhealth.nhs.uk\/bceds\/professionals\/physical-health-monitoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Physical health monitoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"130\" data-end=\"379\">We work closely with GPs to ensure appropriate physical health monitoring is in place for each patient.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"130\" data-end=\"379\">While some monitoring can be done by our staff, we often ask GPs and hospital teams to review aspects of physical health.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"130\" data-end=\"379\">Monitoring may include blood tests, ECGs, and bone health assessments depending on individual needs and risk factors.<\/p>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Blood tests<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"941\">Blood tests may be used to monitor general health and identify any medical complications. These can include checks of electrolytes, kidney function, and nutrition markers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"943\" data-end=\"1147\">The frequency of blood tests is agreed by our multidisciplinary team based on individual risk, current physical health, and any symptoms present. This may change over time depending on clinical presentation and progress.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1375\">We may request closer monitoring where there are concerns such as significant weight loss, purging behaviours, physical symptoms (for example dizziness, palpitations, or fainting), or use of certain medications or supplements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Nutritional support<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1697\">In some cases, we may recommend additional nutritional support, which can include oral nutritional supplements such as high-calorie drinks (for example products like Ensure or Fortisip) where clinically appropriate. These recommendations are always individualised and discussed with the GP.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1697\"><\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<p data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1697\"><details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Supplements and general health support<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1967\">We may advise that some patients would benefit from supplements such as multivitamins, minerals, omega-3, or calcium. This will depend on individual needs and is communicated to the GP as part of a wider treatment plan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1967\"><\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<p data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1967\"><details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">ECG monitoring<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2175\">An ECG may be recommended if there are concerns about heart health, particularly in the context of malnutrition, significant weight loss, purging behaviours, or certain medications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2175\"><\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<p data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2175\"><details class=\"nhsuk-details nhsuk-expander\">\n                    <summary class=\"nhsuk-details__summary\">\n                        <span class=\"nhsuk-details__summary-text\">Bone health (DEXA scans)<\/span>\n                    <\/summary>\n                    <div class=\"nhsuk-details__text\">\n<p data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2392\">A DEXA scan may be recommended to assess bone density where there has been prolonged periods of low weight, disrupted menstruation, or other risk factors for reduced bone strength.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2392\"><\/div>\n                <\/details>\n<p data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2392\">Professionals are also welcome to contact us directly for further guidance or clarification at any point.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We work closely with GPs to ensure appropriate physical health monitoring is in place for each patient.
